critical analysis

This is Leonardo’s da Vinci’s study on the anatomy of the human shoulder neck region, in this study he has different drawing of a man’s shoulder and neck region in different angles, and different anatomical prospective, such as the muscular and skeletal system.  He has drawn the man in different angles in order to show how the form of the human changes different angles, as you can see he has recorded the same man in a frontal and profile viewpoint in order to show how the form changes such as how you see more of the posterior deltoid (shoulder) from and the profile viewpoint,

You canalso see how the muscles of the sternocleidomastoid attach to the skull behind the ear and massatta(jaw bone) .

In the frontal position he recorded the man extending his arm outward, he accurately records how the muscles of the pectorals are stretched when the shoulder joint is in that certain position, in the same sketch he emphasises the shape and form of the muscular system on the left side and the recordings on the right side are more fluent and has a skin like form, he’s putting emphasis on it because that’sthe focus of his studies, his focus was the form shape and depth of the muscle on the right side and on the left its quite plain but still accurately showing what the human form looks like with the skin and fat on it.

He also recorded the human skeletal system, he accurately records the posterior side of the shoulder region, showing the parts of the skeletal system like the scapula(shoulder blade)  and humeras(arm) bone, he also records a study of how the skeletal system covers around the body organs, he draws the shoulder join bones and how it connects to the ribcage which wraps around the diaphragm  and how the shoulder joint also connects to the arm. I think that Leonardo studies how the skeletal system is shaped in order to get a full understanding of the human anatomy, understand how the skeletal system is formed and how the muscular system wraps around the skeleton, and how this helps him understand not only how the what the form looks like but also why is formed like that Giving him that knowledge of anatomy which will help correctly record the human form.

The techniques he used to shade this study was hatching, he uses this technique of shading with lines in one direction in order to get the effect of strands in the muscles in order to get a more realistic and accurate  recordings of the man

Di Vinci uses the hatching techniques as shadows to add the detail sand depth of the muscle. When he wants quit a dark area  he would densely add line in the specific area giving that effect of depth within the muscle, and area with little detail like the skin details he adds a very few lines as a shading giving a simplicity effect. The way he added the details of the muscular system was to lightly but accurately sketch the shape of the muscles and then use hatching shade technique to give it that detail and depth.

This is a sketch by Leonardo Da Vinci it’s his study of hands, he has to finished sketches of hands that has been accurately recoded and shaded and finishes sketches.

The line techniques he had used are to lightly sketch the main outline of the shape of the hand, not getting the form of the hand completely accurate but getting the general shape and proportions of the hands, he adds extra details such as the part of the sleeve and the second hand holding the other as a help or guidelines for the final pieces, was he has the basic outlines are done.

he added darker lines to give that more definite outline the hand.  He used the shading he used was tonal shading and it does seemed he may of quickly smudged the shading to get a more skin like effect and soft tone to it.  His initial lines are very fast and sketchy while his final shaded are very smooth with neat line details such as the folds in the fingers and the nails. Also the finals sketches are more anatomically accurate drawing then his quick sketches this shows in things like the thumbs of the guideline images compared to the thumbs in the finished image

degas gesture drawings

This is a gesture drawing of two dancers studied by Edward degas, In this study was a quick study of dancers preparing and stretching to dance, I think what he tried to achieve was to get the fluidity and natural look of the human form to give that that feeling of movement as you can see in this drawing, the medium used was a black charcoal or pastel to draw the main and initial lines,

you can see how he has used different types of marks using the same medium, how he has presses hard to give a dark contrasting line to really show where he was focusing on which was the fluidity of the form of the dancers body while doing day to day  task and giving that sense of movement, he has  also used very light or smudged marks in order to show parts that weren’t as visible or noticeable, he has also done these contrasting marks with shadowing he would has very dark  as the shadows he sees and light line marks for places with very little shadow and covered by light, there isn’t any midtones or shade that are in-between the and he is trying to bring out the marks and parts he is focusing on.

He hasn’t marked many of the details such has the close as these are not what he has focused on, which was the posture and gesture of the dancer, he has only marked them as light lines to give that sense that he was there

100 drawings

human form

This is my one hundred drawings, for this assignment I had to draw 100 quick sketches of different objects and things, but also in different style, I cut it into 3 segments, 30 life forms, 30 objects, 30 scenes, this is my human forms drawings, my focus, was not so much the facial details but the way the body is position, the posture and the folds and details on the clothes, I did this to capture the movement in the drawings.  For this I have used a mixture of soft and cross hatch shading for variety,

objects.

This was the object portion of my 100 drawings. For this I focused on using different drawing techniques in order to capture the texture of the object. These were quick 10 min drawings so the shading and sketch is relatively simple, so mu focus was to get the basic shape the look of the texture with different drawing techniques such as cross hatching and tonal shading.

Unit 4 Concept Artwork

introduction to materials, proccesses and technical skills in Art& Design

This is research on professional concept storyboard, I research on the anime full feature "Akira"  (1988)  I want I take form his is how they create images that will show how they want camera angle to be in the final shot, The artist had a mixture of character close and stills of he environments,

they also use simple line drawing because they still may be in the concept stage of the character design and don’t want to be spending time rendering It.

concept Art research

In Westeros John snow and Daenerys Targaryen come in contact for the first time, they join forces to achieve there common goal of retaking the iron thrones and defeating the Lannister, there attempts fail, but during this time they become lovers and have a son, known as Arthur Targaryen he carries on his parent legacy by taking over the iron thrones and killing the Lannister's

sequel storyline

These is are my hand drawn illustrations of character and story board concept art.

My influences are the game of thrones series (2012) the objective was to create a sequel character for a game/ movie or TV show, my chosen story was game of thrones TV series game of thrones (George R.R martin ,2012) I took some of the actors aesthetic features like hair,  as well as the design for the nights armor from he show as reference o create the design my character.

the way I created the design was by hand drawing illustrations using a range of H's and B's pencils, also  the medium  of grey markers to render he main pose of he character.  I used the technuiqe of tonal shading in order to add the effect of deth and age of the objects in the scene, with the grey shade markers i wanted to add the sense of clour, and detail, by adding different shades of grey it gives a sense io

I think I created a design that is accurate and fitting for the character story line also capture some features the captures character heritage

I could of improved the quality of my line drawing creating a more cleaner and clearer concept story board that creates the scene also, the main pose was positioned too low not along me to capture the full body, I should of pre planed the position of character and scale.  By increasing the scale of the drawing, it would allow my to add more detail, increasing the inrecasy and achieving a higher quality more complex drawing

external feedback I got from my classmates were:

"nice design need too spend more time on line drawing

I like the story and the design but not the story board"

Evalution

This is coccept art of the hellboy movie enviroment. it was created by Concept and Comic artist Rob McCallum  (2009).

The meduim he used was a range of H and B pencils. The effect that concept art is that it bring the idea into a scene that can be used as reference for the overall look of the art of the project. you can give this to the moddelers or vfx artist as a reference image.

Anchor 1

Accorrding to the artist, this storyboard was just a sample for the hellboy franchise, it has nothing actually to do with the helboy movies it self but becouse it proves he able to create a convinvcing look and concept enviroment, this concept art got him an job offer from Guillermo Del Toro to work on Hellboy 2.

these are some vfx and conept art peices found on the desing studio Karakter website. What you can see in these images is how they have incorparated the character design with the setting design, the have mostly positioned the character walking away for the camera into the world creating a more immesrive effect.

alot of the rendering technuiqes have been computer generated, i can use this technuiqe as out goal is to use more traditional rendering tools. Some of rendering i could use is the use of paint, i could use the paint in order to create a a more detailed look and add colour to the world making my artwork more immesrsive, it would also add a more dynamic effect if i incorparated this with highlights and shadowing effects

In this porstion i recorded different in my house i decided to deifferent aspects of different rooms, giving mysllf five minuits each to record the drawings, in order to add detail and shading in the timr frame giving i had o use a hatching technuiqe ass this is the quickest way to repersent shading adding depth of field the the drawings, what i could do the

these i my drwing studies of 100 drawings, 1/3 human fomr 1/3 objects 1/3 scenery, these were quick 10cm by 10 cm drawings that had a time limit of ten minuit each.

I used a range of H and B's pencils to add different tonnes and shades, i started off with a quick line drawing to draw the basic shape and details, i then added different details and depth of field with different shading technuiqes, such as hatching, cross hatching and tonal shading.

I think by using different shading technuiqes i was able to create the sense of depth as texture, i also think that some different shading technuiqe gave a different effect to the line drawing such as, tonal gave a more smooth soft effect then cross hatching.

things I could of inproved was the quality of the basic line drawing and the quality of the actuall drawings, i could create a neater drawing making it more visually pleasing, also the could of recorded the scenery more accurately and closer to the real life reference
