3D Design is a subject where you have to think both creatively and analytically, example is problem solving a piece of code for games, to learning color theory when designing a mythical creatures. it’s a recently found passion that gives the skill to create visual effects in movies, precise and realistic designs to visually amazing characters and environment in games. The subject fulfils my artistic and technological drive, with the seemingly overwhelming amount of topics to cover, the challenge inspires me to strive for the highest quality of work I can produce, one the only subjects I've been so determined to complete projects, learning invaluable skills and see ideas of mine come to life that I can be proud of. It’s a skill that branches into many different industries and is rapidly becoming an essential skill for the modern artist/designer.

I would like to take the basic skills I've learnt to a higher more professional level. example being to learn how accurately model high poly hard surface intricate parts of a machine/ robot that would be movable/transformable when rigged. I would also would like to become familiar and stay updated with the latest innovative techniques, workflows and software the as wish to one day be at the forefront of the industry. I firstly I wish to learn new skills that I have not touched on or is above my current skill level to do. example of this is to learn how to use fluid simulations software like Bifrost.

I first started learning basic artistic concept through sketching. learning about human Anatomy (proportions), drawing in 2 and 3 point perspective, different techniques for shading and how lights reacts creating shadows.

I Then started to use software used by 3d artist like Maya, Mudbox and Photoshop, learning basic techniques such as box modeling, detailed sculpting, UV mapping, and texturing. Working on projects where I create 3D assets and environments that are realistic or stylized in nature, later learning to use different technique and workflows to get better more interesting results, examples like using displacement maps in order to render high Polly detail from a Mudbox sculpt onto a low Polly model in Maya or to image based lighting to light the model realistically. skills that help Develop a specialism towards fields such as game designing/ animation.

I have also been involved with other institutional programs such as the BFI ( British Film Institute ) Animation camp where we created more traditional stop motion animations, although I prefer CGI animation, the experience was valuable as we worked as teams on a project as if we were in a profesional enviroment. Working on projects for my course teaches basic skills necessary but I feel that I can take my knowledge further, so in my own free time I often research and experiments with new techniques learnt form online tutorials and talks demos. these have thought me basics techniques that will not covered on my course, example being using Xgen hair system. This has helped broaden my perspective of what I can specialize in.

For 3D designs an influences of mine is 3d character artist Arda Koyuncu, reason is because he has created some of the highest quality characters for triple a games such as assassins creed unity and Halo 4. he also able to use different software fluently so he can adapt to any project pipeline. Another is writer/illustrator Mark Crilly because of his interesting style, a mixture western style comics and manga style illustrations. also his skill to create hyper realistic art using mediums such as color pencils and water colors is a good reference when creating realistic textures.

The world of CGI is constantly and rapidly evolving, its at a point where students have access to the same tools that professional studios. There is so much to learn, explore and specialize in, giving opportunities to all creative minds. although the industry is becoming more competitive. this is why I want to take my education and learning further so I am well equipped for the industry and strive to improve as an artist.

UCAS personal statement

For my ucas application I have chosen the five courses from escape studios, also universities of hertfordshire, ravensbourne, south hampten solent and de monofort. i have accepted offers for the '3D animation and modeling', course from university of Hertfordshire, 'the visuals effects, integrated masters' from escape studios' Pearson' and the 3D animation' course at the university of Ravensbourne.

I have ultimatley chosen hertforshire as my main choice for multiple reason, firstly this course was skillset reccomended and was ranked as one of the top 3 courss in the world by '3D Magazine' second reason is becouse of the hight  q uality  work of previous student shown on the showreel   suggest that that the tutors will help me bring my work to a higher standard like their previous students.

My insurance choice was the visual effects intergrated masters at escape studios, the reason why I have chosen this is becouse of the way the course is run according the the course leaders I will be given professional projects task during our time on the course. This would be good experience for when I do work within  industry.

Another reason is the previous work was at a high standard and many students have success stories of working at companies like framestore and double negative, working on films like star wars.

This tells me then this course is capabable of giving me the skill set I need to work within the industry .

My dream job is to be a 3d character artist working on multiple games, creating a variety of  stylized and realistic art.  doing research on  I have a found a magazine article on what are the skills required, the main skills required is experience within 3d applications and be proficient with modeling and shading networks for texturing.  I have also found a job spec for character artist at nighty dog and the skills required are slightly more traditional. Things such as knowledge of sculpting human anatomy, light, shape and form. A common skill needed from both specs  is an eye for detail.

I like that the magazine article gives you advice to actually getting to the point of employability, they have advised to go into higher education on a art related course because most artist in industry do have a HND in a art subject and the course will help you bring your skill level up.

industry research - dream job

During the show the class students had a computer monitor each in order to showcase the work, we have also took prints of our best work to showcase on boards around the class room, feedback we got was that the prints didn’t help showcase the work well because they are randomly placed around the room. One suggestion was to have name tags of people next their work and have the images organized by units.

they we participated within the show is by taking turns demonstrating the programs we use in order to create out 3D work.
